Jannik Sinner Leads Entries Into China Open In Beijing

September 6, 2024 by Randy Walker Leave a Comment

The China Open announced the outstanding player field for this year’s tournament in the press conference at the Diamond Court. There are combined 16 Grand Slam Singles Champions coming to Beijing including World No. 1s Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner. 2024 China Open will be held from September 23 to October 6th, at the National Tennis Center in Beijing. Chinese tennis players made great achievements at the Paris Olympics. Singles gold medalist Qinwen Zheng will return to the China Open with Olympic glory to compete with top players. Mixed doubles silver medalists Zhizhen Zhang and Xinyu Wang also are direct entries into the field. Besides, Chinese fans will have opportunities to watch the great performances of players like Yue Yuan, Xiyu Wang, Juncheng Shang and Bu Yunchaokete. It marks a record for the number of Chinese players in the singles qualifying draw, further demonstrating the success of Chinese tennis at the
China Open.

Last year’s champion Sinner, finalist Daniil Medvedev, and semi-finalists Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev will return to the China Open along with Top 10 players Andrey Rublev and Grigor Dimitrov. A total of six Top 10 players will arrive for the ATP Tour 500-level tournament at the National Tennis Center. Other stars include Paris Olympics bronze medalist Lorenzo Musetti, 2020 Tokyo Olympics singles silver medalist Karen Khachanov and former World No. 6 Gael Monfils in the 32-player draw. Zhizhen Zhang is the first Chinese man to earn direct entry into the China Open with his ATP Ranking.

In the post Big 3 era, the rivalry between 23-year-old Sinner and 21-year-old Alcaraz is intensifying. The Spaniard won back-to-back Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon after the Italian captured his first Grand Slam crown at the Australian Open. Alcaraz was also a silver medalist at the Paris Olympics. Last year Sinner won the China Open by defeating Alcaraz and Medvedev in the final two rounds. Sinner, who leads the ATP Tour this season with five titles, will attempt to successfully defend a title for the second time in his career.

As one of 10 WTA 1000 mandatory tournaments, the Top 76 players will line up at the China Open. The singles entry list include 11 Grand Slam tournament singles champions in the draw: Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Victoria Azarenka, Barbora Krejcikova, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, Jelena Ostapenko, Sofia Kenin, Sloane Stephens, Caroline Wozniacki and Emma Raducanu. World No. 8 Qinwen Zheng leads the group of 4 Chinese female players in the singles draw. It will be a remarkable battle between Chinese players and strong contingent of international players in the expanded 96-draw. An unseeded player must win seven matches in a row to claim the title, making it as difficult as a Grand Slam tournament.

Along with the stunning player line-up, off-court the China Open also serves first-class catering and provides multiple fan experiences. Not only does it have a 360-degree LED screen for the audience, but also it will launch the music festival. China Open also announced the partnership with Migu, delivering the first 5G tennis metaverse.
