Wimbledon Day 12 Picks – Will Jannik Sinner Gain Revenge Over Novak Djokovic?

July 13, 2023 by tennisbloggers Leave a Comment

Our record so far this Wimbledon fortnight is 25-7…not bad.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev might be a bit lucky to be in the semifinals after surviving against Chris Eubanks in the quarterfinals after trailing two sets to one. While Carlos Alcaraz has struggled at times en route to the semifinals, he has persisted and shown his competitive fire. We just don’t see Alcaraz losing this match. It might go four sets, but Alcaraz will meet his destiny to at least reach the Wimbledon final.

Novak Djokovic vs. Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner might be the biggest threat to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon in 2023. They played in the quarterfinals in 2022 with Djokovic escaping after leading two-set-to-love. There’s no doubt that Sinner will look to make amends for this and now has former Andre Agassi coach Darren Cahill in his camp, which could push him over the edge. A Jannik Sinner vs. Carlos Alcaraz final would, to many, further symbolize the next generation of tennis stars are ready to take the mantle, but this is still the era of Djokovic and we are picking him to win this in four sets.

Wimbledon Day Nine Picks – Will A Novak Djokovic vs. Jannik Sinner Semifinal Happen?

July 10, 2023 by tennisbloggers Leave a Comment

We are excited that our win-loss record is 20-4 through the first eight days, with three of the four losses being five-set matches and the other being affected by a player’s injury. Here’s our picks for Day nine!

Jessica Pegula vs. Marketa Vondrousova

This will be a fascinating match with Pegula’s compact strokes against the loopy, wing-span-ish style of Vondrousova. The Czech is definitely a hard out and has an Olympic silver medal and a Roland Garros runner-up on her resume, but Pegula will persist to reach her long-awaited for major semifinal. Pegula is still alive in the doubles with Coco Gauff, which is keeping her sharp.

Jannik Sinner vs. Roman Safiulin

This is an easy pick. It’s like taking Secretariat to show at the Belmont Stakes. Jannik Sinner is on a collision course with Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, which will be a corker.

Novak Djokovic vs. Andrey Rublev

There is no stopping the Novak Djokovic train. Rublev could sneak a set, but bank on Djokovic to face Sinner in the semifinals.

Wimbledon Day Seven Picks – Jannik Sinner Is Probably The Biggest Threat To Novak Djokovic

July 8, 2023 by tennisbloggers Leave a Comment

Novak Djokovic vs. Hubert Hurkacz

Hubert Hurkacz has a history of dashing hopes of an all-time great on Centre Court at Wimbledon. In 20221, he took out Roger Federer in the quarterfinals in what was Federer’s last ever singles match of his career and his All England Club swan song. He’s not stopping the Novak Djokovic train in this round of 16 match.

Jannik Sinner vs. Daniel Galan

Jannik Sinner may be the single biggest threat to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon in 2023. They could meet in the semifinals and probably will. Sinner will beat Galan in straight sets to get one round away from a match-up with Djokovic.

Roman Safiullin vs. Denis Shapovalov

Roman Safiullin is a new name to tennis who has reached the fourth round of a major for the first time. Denis Shapovalov is a former Wimbledon semifinalist but has struggled to regain the form that got him to the penultimate round at the All England Club since. We feel that Shapovalov will stop his run of underachieving results based on his talent and advance into the quarterfinals.

Wimbledon Day Three Picks – Will Daria Kasatkina Be 2023 Wimbledon’s Elena Rybakina?

July 4, 2023 by tennisbloggers Leave a Comment

Daria Kasatkina vs. Jodie Burrage

Daria Katatkina could be one of the darkest of dark horses at Wimbledon in 2023. The Russian, who has publicly repudiated Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, may see karma on her side in this year after Russians were banned from playing Wimbledon. She’s got a crafty game with a slice that plays well on the grass, not unlike 1994 Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez. She’s been ranked as high as No. 8 (seeded No. 11 this event), reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2018 and the semis at Roland Garros in 2022, so she is used to big-time matches. She’s in good form having reached the final at Eastbourne leading into Wimbledon. She will take out British wild card Jodie Burrage in the second round and will probably go deep at this event.

Jannik Sinner vs. Diego Schwartzman

Making predictions is all about being right. Sure you can take a flyer and call a big upset, but isn’t it better to be safe and not lose? That’s why we will go with Jannik Sinner over Diego Schwartzman. Sinner is also a good outside pick to win it all. He has yet to reach a Grand Slam semifinal, having lost in the quarterfinal hurdle at all four. He could do so this year and get to the semifinals against Novak Djokovic. The two played in the quarterfinals last year and Sinner actually led two sets to love in that match before losing, so he would be itching to make amends for that loss.

Alexander Zverev vs. Gijs Brouwer

Picking is about picking a sure-thing winner, right? Alexander Zverev will win this match, unless he has an injury like his famous one against Rafael Nadal at the French Open which kept him off tour for many months last year. Some people may tip to Zverev to win Wimbledon, but there are just too many players to get through for him to go all the way. He could get to the fourth round to face Carlos Alcaraz and he could even win that match, but to get through passed Holger Rune or Daniil Medvedev could be a larger hurdle and then, of course, the final against maybe Djokovic. We are sure, however, that he will be this Dutch player in the first round.

Carlos Alcaraz Persists To Win 2022 U.S. Open

September 12, 2022 by Randy Walker Leave a Comment

Carlos Alcaraz won his first major singles title beating Casper Ruud 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-3 in the final of the U.S. Open, becoming the event’s second youngest men’s singles champion and in the process becoming the youngest man to clinch the world No. 1 ranking.

Alcaraz, at age 19 years, 4 months and 6 days, is only three months older than Pete Sampras, when he won the U.S. men’s title in 1990 at the age of 19 years, 28 days. However, Alcaraz is well over a year younger than Lleyton Hewitt as the youngest world No. 1, Hewitt assuming the top ranking in 2001 at the age of 20 years and 268 days.

The young Spaniard persisted at the end of the tournament in what four-time U.S. Open champion John McEnroe called “one of the all-time great efforts you will ever see to win an event.” He won three straight matches in five sets, including two that finished after 2 am, to reach the final, a feat last achieved by Stefan Edberg in 1992, who famously came back from a service break in the fifth set in the fourth round, quarterfinals and semifinals. Alcaraz trailed by a service break in the firth set against 2014 U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic in the fourth round before winnign 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in three hours and 54 minutes in a match that ended at 2:23 am. He then saved a match point in his quarterfinal epic win against Jannik Sinner, which he won 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-7 (0), 7-5, 6-3 in five hours and 15 minutes, the second longest U.S. Open match of all time, that finished at 2:50 am, the latest finish in U.S. Open history. In the semifinals, he again persisted in his five-set 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (5), 6-3, fighting against a roaring U.S. crowd.

Alcaraz spent a total of 23 hours, 40 minutes on court in the tournament.

Latest And Second-Longest! Alcaraz vs. Sinner Match Makes U.S. Open History

September 8, 2022 by Randy Walker Leave a Comment

The US Open set a record for its latest-ever finish early Thursday morning when 19-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz defeated 21-year-old Italian Jannik Sinner, 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-3, in a quarterfinal final men’s singles match that officially ended at 2:50 a.m.

The match lasted 5 hours, 15 minutes — the second-longest US Open match ever — and surpassed the previous record for latest finish of 2:26 a.m., set three times, most recently in 2014. The record for longest match is 5:26, set by Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang in 1992. Alcaraz, the No. 3 seed, will now play American Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals on Friday. Earlier on Wednesday, Tiafoe defeated Andrey Rublev, 7-6(3), 7-6(0), 6-4, to become the first African-American man to reach the semifinals of the US Open since Arthur Ashe in 1972
