In just 50 minutes on court, World number one Justine Henin was able to dispose of 19 year old, left-handed player Ekaterina Makarova, who is ranked 156 in the world. Seemingly showing no signs of injury or nervousness, Justine was able to finish the first set off with a 6-0 score. The first set only took 18 minutes to finish.
In the second set, the 19 year old seemed to be a little more comfortable, but it was too late because Justine was just too much to handly for the lefty. With Justine’s aggressiveness and her mentality, this was not a hard match for her. Justine took the second set 6-2.
Final score 6-0 6-2.
A very well played match by Justine today. Very aggressive, and staying focus on every point. It was very well played her our crafty Belgian.
“I take whatever I can take, just go step by step, try to build my confidence. A big part of my success is that I’ve always been very focused on myself in the last few years, don’t look too much on the other side of the net.” [quoted by Justine]
” I’m going to have a good test in two days. It’s the way you build a lot good things. Just go match after match, so we’ll see.I’m just feeling happy to be on the court. I’m healthy, almost 100 percent except for my shoulder.” [quoted by Justine]
So who is next for our World Number 1? Russian player, Dinara Safina. The head to head is 3-0 in favor of Justine, and the last time they met was last year at the Family Circle Cup in which Justine won in straight sets.
