Stella McCartney

Fashion Focus: Adidas by Stella McCartney, f/w ‘08

October 2, 2008 by Erwin Ong

The fall/winter ‘08 adidas by Stella McCartney line dropped right before the U.S. Open this year, and we got a chance to see the merch up close while at the company’s performance store in SoHo (where we also got fitted for some custom Barricades).

McCartney drew inspiration from Victorian-era embellishments for the prints and cuts of the tennis pieces, all made in the Brit’s usual muted pallete. This season’s colors: White, Rubia Grey (black), Dark Concrete (grey), and Pale Salmon (pink).

Note the floral cutout adhered to the bubble skirt of the Tennis Print Dress (with its racerback top).

Here is the season’s skirt with the corset-like Tennis Mesh Tank.

And Stella’s fall warmup jacket features a drawcord around the gathered neckline, making room for the wide turtleneck tee. There’s also a separates version of that Tennis Dress.
Fit to print: McCartney muse Maria Kirilenko won the Hansol Korea Open last week.
Buy: Cover-up Blouson, $170; Tennis Print Dress, $120; Cover Up Tennis Tee, $100; Tennis Mesh Tank, $90; Tennis Woven Shorts, $80.
Browse: See McCartney’s other designs — for yoga, golf, running, dance, and winter sports — at the adidas e-shop.

Maria Sharapova, version 3.1

September 30, 2008 by Erwin Ong

Maria Sharapova might be out of the running for the rest of the season (darn that nagging shoulder injury!), but it hasn’t stopped her from hitting the town — especially in the name of a good cause.
Last weekend she came out to Thousand Oaks, Calif. in full fashion regalia — a green dress from 3.1 Phillip Lim, shoes by Dior, and a brown hyper-zippered Stella McCartney clutch — in support of brothers Mike and Bob Bryan, who’ve taken a page out of Andre Agassi’s philanthropic book with the establishment of their eponymous foundation.
Saturday’s All-Star Tennis Smash raised money for local and national charities supported by the twins, including City Impact, an organization supporting at-risk youth in Ventura County. The half-day event started with a pro exhibition featuring celebs and athletes, including Agassi (in his public playing appearance this year), Jon Lovitz, Jimmy-Jean Louis, Melissa Rivers, Lindsay Davenport, James Blake, Justin Gimelstob, Thomas Blake, and Robby Ginepri.
Afterwards, the brothers feted Agassi for his charitable endeavors at a gala dinner attended by Masha, among others. The evening began with an auction (autographed racquets, days with tennis players) and was capped off with performances by Evan and Jaron and Brandi Carlile.

Fashion Focus: Nike Digs Into Adidas Archives for Maria's Wimbledon Kit

June 24, 2008 by Erwin Ong

Maria Sharapova recently confirmed that she’ll mix up her Grand Slam outfits at this year’s Wimbledon by wearing shorts; she has so far only worn dresses to these big events.

The sleeveless pleated tuxedo top and the tailored shorts are perfect for the most formal of the Grand Slams, but we’re a little disappointed that this looks like Maria Kirilenko’s 2007 outfit: the tuxedo shirt dress from adidas by Stella McCartney.
What do you think of Sharapova’s kit?

Maria Kirilenko and Flavia Pennetta Qualify for Wimbledon Doubles

June 22, 2008 by Erwin Ong

Congrats to the newish doubles team of Flavia Pennetta and Maria Kirilenko. They qualified for Wimbledon in their third competition together (won Estoril and reached the second round at the French).

And of course Maria looks super-cute in her adidas by Stella McCartney get-up. (That’s the midlayer jacket.)

I don’t think I’ve seen this scoop neck long-sleeved top before… is it from the current season?

The Short-Lived Life Of The Stella McCartney Dress

June 6, 2008 by Erwin Ong

Maria Kirilenko switches from the separates to the sold-out Tennis Dress from adidas by Stella McCartney’s Spring/Summer 2008 line.
She lost in the second round of the French to Jie Zheng 6-4, 3-6, 2-6.

Buy: The dress is no longer, so you should wipe away your tears with this Cover-up Blouse Jacket in Shell Beige, $165, also from the spring/summer collection. The puffy sleeves and pleated chest detail are a nice touch.
