LUXEMBOURG (Oct. 20, 2012) — In her first tournament back after the U.S. Open, former world No. 1 Venus Williams finds herself in the finals of the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open. She defeated another player on the comeback trail, Andrea Petkovic, in a two-and-a-half hour match that went the distance, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
She will take on Romanian Monica Niculescu, who earlier in the day defeated Daniela Hantuchova with a quick 6-1, 6-3 win. Niculescu has yet to grab her first WTA Tour title, but she is besting her showing in Luxembourg by reaching the finals again this year after losing to current world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka last year.
