World number one Justine Henin of Belgium advanced to her 10th final of the year after a hard-fought battle against Czech Nicole Vaidisova (WTA 15).
Henin came back from the loss of the first set winning 3-6 6-3 7-5. After Henin missed a couple of chances to break Vaidisova took her only chance at 3-4 and then served out the set.
In the second set the world number one was more in control and she leveled the match.
At the start of the third set there was plenty of break of service until Henin hold serve to go 4-2 in front.
The Czech, serving at 3-5 to stay in the match, had to save match point but in the end she took the game and she broke Henin in the next game to level the set at 5 all. As it’s often the case, Henin raises her level on crucial moments and won the last two games to win her 19 match in a row after losing in the Wimbledon semifinal.
“I surely didn’t play my best game but it’s important to win in these situations. She put me under a lot of pressure and I had problems with her serve” said the Belgian who reached her second Zurich Open finale after taking the title in 2003. She will now face French Tatiana Golovin who beat Francesca Schiavone of Italy 6-0 6-4. These two already met two weeks ago in the Stuttgart finale with Henin winning that match in 3 sets.
