Nadia Petrova is looking to make some 2007 noise in the Tier II event, Paris. Nadia has a pretty good draw; as she should considering she’s the #4 seed. Nadia has a bye in round one and will play Martina Muller most likely on Thursday.
Looking ahead (Nadia will surely win that match; she’s had her way with the German in the past!), Nadia will probably play fellow Russian Dinara Safina. Safina made a splash to start the year by beating Martina Hingis to win Gold Coast, an event the Swiss was touted to win.
The two Russians have played twice in their careers, the last match coming during Nadia’s title run in Berlin, Nadia obviously winning, but after recovering from a set down. Nadia will have to stay focused and continue to be the agressor in her matches. Nadia may have lost early to Serena, but Nadia definately made Serena win that match.
In the semis, Nadia will probably play Amelie Mauresmo. This is a stroke of luck for Petrova, who beat the Frenchwoman in the YEC the last time they played. Nadia was in blistering form then, and has shown much of the same form in her past few matches.
Again, I won’t cover the final because that’s deciphering another half of the draw! Nadia’s draw is ideal, each match raises its level of difficulty. If all goes well, Nadia can definately be in the final, but she’ll have to be consistent, positive, and consistently positive!!
