Many Games were played today. There were some upsets as well. Many players highlighted today like Daniela Hantuchova, Anna Chakvetadze, who is aiming her her 10th straight victory, Venus Williams, Sania Mirza, Patty Schnyder, Tatiana Golovin, and Russian beauties Maria Kirilenko and Maria Sharapova.
First off, we have an upset by Russian Maria Kirilenko over Lucie Safarova. With this match, Maria has ended her 10 match losing streak to top 30 players. The final score for this match was 6-4 7-6(3) in straight sets.
Daniela Hantuchova needed three sets to defeat Victoria Azarenka of Belarus to move onto the next round. The final score was 6-3 1-6 6-1. While Daniela needed three sets to win, another Russian, Anna Chakvetadze continues her winning ways and defeats American Meghann Shaughnessy in straight sets 6-4 6-4.
American Venus Williams also defeated French player Virginie Razzano 6-2 6-4. Hoping to continue her recent success from Stanford, Sania Mirza defeated Eleni Danillidou 7-6(1) 6-3.
Switzerlands number two star, Patty Schnyder defeated Russian Alla Kudryavtseva in straight sets 6-2 6-0. Elena Dementieva of Russia beat German Angelique Kerber 6-1 6-2.
Another French player goes down as Camille Pin was defeated by Dinara Safina 6-1 6-4. This can also be called somewhat an upset given the recent success of touring mother and Austrain Sybille Bammer as she was ousted out by Japan’s own Au Sugiyama 6-2 7-6(3).
As two French players fall, one still remains as Tatiana Golovin needed three sets to advance to the next round. She defeated Anne Kremer 6-1 4-6 6-2.
The highlight of the evening was Russian favourite Maria Sharapova, who played Tamarine Tanasugarn. Maria was successful as she won the match in straight sets 6-1 6-3.
What do we have in store for you tomorrow? Well, Marion Bartoli will face off against Elena Dementieva, Maria Kirilenko against Jelena Jankovic, Maria Sharapova against Tatiana Golovin, a Swiss duel Martina Hingis against Patty Schnyder, Katarina Srebotnik versus Nadia Petrova, Russian teen Anna Chakvetadze against Ai Sugiyama.
