Justine Henin has won the Dubai Open Championships. She defeated French Amelie Mauresmo in straight sets 6-4 and 7-5.
Henin has won the Dubai tournament for 4 times in 5 years. It’s her 30th career title but the first one of 2007. She skipped the entire Australian hardcourt season due to a divorce.
This is her 7th win over Mauresmo in 13 meetings. The Belgian top seed started the match very well by immediately breaking Mauresmo’s serve. Mauresmo came back in the match but failed to cash in on crucial breakpoints at 3-4.
According to Henin Mauresmo came back strong but Henin kept serving well and played agressive which paid off when she took the first set 6-4.
In the second set Mauresmo again failed to cash in her breakpoints again in the 2nd game of the 2nd set. Henin didn’t hesitate when she had her chance to break her opponents at 5-5. She won the second set eventually with 7-5 taking home her 1st title of the year.
“It’s just amazing. I am so delighted,” said Justine Henin. “I think I played a very good match today, against a very good player … To win against someone like Amelie, and to win a title in only my second tournament back, it is just great.”
